Govt admits decline in sex ratio

      PTI[ MONDAY, DECEMBER 09, 2002 01:58:21 PM ]

NEW DELHI: The decline in female-male sex ratio from 945 in 1991 to
927 in 2001 raises the fear of female foeticide in the country, Rajya
      Sabha was informed on Monday.

Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, A Raja, said no
specific data is available on female foeticide as parties resort to
this practice secretly in connivance with each other.

"The decrease in sex ratio in the age group of 0-6 years leads to the
conclusion that female foeticide could be one of the factors for the
decline", he said in a written reply.
