The New York State Conservationist mag. has a big spread on the
Mountain Lake R.R.(& FJ&G) wreck on Bleeker Mt. , this month.
- From the Bob Bedford clipping file:
June 3, 1893 - The consolidation of the FJ&G Steam RR and the
Cayadutta Electric companies has created an antagonistic feeling
among businessmen of Gloversville, Johnstown, and Kingsboro, and
surroundings. Those freight shipped had hoped that competition
between the two roads would greatly reduce rates in both freight and
passenger fares. Today, representative parties from Johnstown and
Gloversville visited Amsterdam in the interest of arranging a hoped
for scheme with the Amsterdam Street Railroad Company for extending
its line from Fort Johnson through Old Fort Creek Valley to Johnstown
and thereon to Gloversville. From the Amsterdam end of the line, the
track could be extended over the Mohawk River bridge to the Fifth
Ward. Light freight cars could be provided upon which coal and other
merchandise could be transported.
As was announced a few days ago, the extra trains recently placed on
the FJ&G road will soon be discontinued. They will be entirely
unnecessary when the electric line gets in operation. Even now it is
said they are not paying and, in addition to this, so interfere with
freight traffic as to render it necessary to run many freight trains
at night, which is not at all desirable.
