      Seriously, the city historian and I have often frequently discussed what it would take to establish a transportation museum here.  I'd actually like to see a transportation and industry museum given the city's past. Now if we just had some old empty industrial buildings around here somewhere to house it...  The old Chalmers Knitting mill on the South Side would have been perfect - just off the Thruway, right on the river, near the original Erie Canal and NYWS&B ROW - too bad our narrow minded politicians tore it down.  A couple of other possible sites that come to mind - the old Kelloggs and Miller Linseed Oil plant (they built the original AC&N) and the former quarry at the east end where the old Tepee restaurant and motel were (and the remaining AC&N still runs right past it).

      Really enjoyed your conversation with #127, Saul.

      What an imagination you have Saul!  I enjoyed your "visit" with old #127.

      I was there four years ago with an old friend who now lives in Banning, a few miles down the road right on "The 10".  We went on a weekday when the only part open was a sad looking gift shop.  The cashier was very accommodating to my desire to see #127, and hooked us up with a rather sad sack whose shoes had cardboard soles.  They were a metaphor for the state of the Museum.  I was impressed by the size of #127 in comparison to the other neighbors.  A classmate from GHS 1951 also visited there about 5 years ago, and apparently all that happened since is more dust on her.

      That area of CA was whacked by the latest economic stagnation, and I don't believe that the future bodes well for the Museum.

      Perris is at a former ATSF junction with the museum being at the yard and abandoned branch at the junction. Too bad she can't be traded to one of the east coast places that could put her on more of a fast track toward restoration. Could be that her mechanical innards are unique. Maybe she could be shipped to Philly where there are people familiar with the design

      The traction stars are several LA PCC cars. These are 3'6' gauge so their range is limited to a loop of dual gauge track. They have some heavyweight coaches that don't move that are in fairly good condition. There is some truly ancient late 19th century wood cars. These are easy to cosmetically restore.

      We are only going to be in Glendale for another 3 weeks. I've had my fill of LA freeway driving for this year. We could as a group urge the museum to restore the original FJ&G lettering scheme. Of course the best way to get museums' attention is with money. I wonder if anyone from Ogden, Utah even cares like we do. I uploaded some pictures to a new folder but it was not possible to get a shot of the entire car. I could volunteer a day or two a month, but what they need are people with actual shop experience and those folks are getting rarer each day.
