I was in G'ville on August 29/30 for a funeral and spent a short time
on Main Street. Totally depressing. Hard to find a building that is
still occupied. Looks like a ghost town! Road work on S. Main
(about two blocks below Fulton) has, I've been told, so disrupted
traffic that few people come from that direction. I noticed that the
building that once housed my grandfather's (later my uncle's)
business - Berger Leather - on the East side of South Main, is being
rehabilitated. Hope something good will come of that work.
I noticed that the Yahoo map of the area still shows a railroad line
(enter "South Main Street" and "Gloversville, NY" to get that map).
I assume I'm correct that the line is not active.
We also spent a few hours at my cousin (David Berger's) place on
Hampton Point Road at "the Park" (Sacandaga for those not familiar
with the that phrase). The lot, purchased by my grandfather about
1925, backs up to the old airstrip. Didn't get over to the circle,
but I still have fond memories of the "Circle" and the station.
My S-2 in FJG paint (#20) is done. I'll send a pic as soon as I can
set up and photograph a scene that looks decent (although likely not
