Actually, Ann Coulter is the Rights' answer to the Lefts' Molly Ivins.
And her "facts" are more accurate than Ivin's, Franken's and Moore's.
All that characters like that are doing is increasing the incivility of
the political process and turning people off.

Too bad that the Looney Left can not support their positions with
facts, and instead resort to character assassination, name calling, and
blaming the US for all of the World's problems. (one of my Lefty
friends blamed George Bush for the Red Sox demise) One of the worst
offenders is my own beloved senior Senator, Teddy Kennedy. But Howard
Dean and Albert Gore do a pretty good job of it too.

Seriously for a moment, I believe that there is something in Liberals'
psyches that does not allow them to see Evil, or evil in people. But
that is not the world as it is. The people who want to destroy our
society do not play patty cake; they murder all those who do not agree
with their views of religion and society.

There, now I got my 2 cents in too.

        Dick,

In the first part of Franken's book, the part I've gotten to, he dismembers
Ann Coulter piece by piece fact for lies or distortions. When is a
distortion not a lie? If I ever get off this machine, I'll be reading some
        more of that liberal dribble.

On the subject of liberals and their inablility to see evil, you are on to
something there. Three other books on my bedstand this month are William
Blake's poem "The Marriage of Heaven and Hell," Freud's "Civilization and
Its Discontents" and Nietzsche's "Beyond Good and Evil." Those little books
are next. They deal with this subject. What got me onto those tidbits was
a comment I heard about Jim Morrison's Band name "The Doors" coming from
Blakes poetry. Now there was a conflict of goodand evil.

Your last paragraph about those who want to "kill all those who don't agree
with their views of religion and society" really is unsettling for its
truth. Fundamentalists of whatever ilk see things the same way, their way
or no way, and I believe we have many on this side of the pond who cloak
themselves as patriots while preaching a fundamental christianity. They
bomb abortion clinics (Eric Rudolph and his co-conspirators), government
buildings (Oklahoma City), drag black men behind their trucks and tie gays
to fence posts. Among their ranks are the Jew baiters and the kind of
people who locally painted anti black epithets on their neighbor's car and
home. If you're different, you don't belong. We are not beyond this yet.
We shouldn't need anti hate laws in this country.

The popes fought the holy wars, and the French clerics during the
pre-revolutionary war years were the instigators of most of the hardship
between the French and English settlers. They conspired with France and the
Indians to send the pagans (English) to hell. Obviously the Pope had an
interest in seeing France succeed over Protestant England. They disagreed
fundamentally. And anglos still fight over religion in Ireland (not so long
ago in Quebec), rather than simply economics.

Intolerance is deep in our cultural roots, it is an element of who we are as
        Americans.

George Carlin rhetorically asked in one of his bits, how much kinder and
gentler would the world have been if there never were religion? (Not a quote
but a synopsis). I don't know. My faith, at least the way I learned it,
taught me to respect and also endeavored to have me understand other points
of view. Admittedly this all came in college, and a Catholic one at that.

        Just for the record as I'm re-reading this. I oppose abortion at any time;
but I won't get between you and your conscience. Re: Carlin, I do not
subscribe to his thinking in all cases, but his views do offer food for
thought. Most often his thoughts are expressed too crudely for my taste,
perhaps it's to get my attention.

The merits of whether the FJ&G could or would be rebuilt as a going concern
may be moot. In my opinion the FJ&G exemplifies the purest application of
capitalism. In 1932 the Republican Hoover Administration said no to a
financial bail out. So the company reorganized and lasted until the money
and interest died in 1973. In resurrection the Democratic state government
played a major part in funding its ability to operate; it lasted only ten
years. Should the government have carried it further than they did and put
up more money for a dead horse or were the Republicans right in 1932 by
staying out of it? There that's something said about the FJ&G.

for president. The only thing Bush has done is run the economy into
the ground. I'm not a big Kerry fan, but I sure don't want to see
Bush for 4 more years. Say what you want about Clinton, at least we
had a strong economy while he was president. Like the bumper sticker
I saw a few weeks ago: Like father, like son, 4 years and out.

            Hello Gino and friends-

I've been off list for a while , so I hope things are well with you
all and the forage into Fulton County is fruitful. Seems we got a
little politics going. I won't take up space on this list other than
            this:

3 years ago the company I work for was the #1 food appitizer company
in the world; with many strongpoints in it's POPPER/ANCHOR brands.
1.5 yrs. ago it was sold to our nearest competitor in a somewhat
hostle ( cheaper to buyem that beat em situation ) takeover that
made our owners and Sr. mgmnt multi, multi millionares. Since then
our core of 1500 employees has been terminated down to 700, with
robotics and other cost savings; which continue to this day. More
layoffs expected. I'm 10 yrs into this company, with a high end
employee base of 13 yrs, of which there are few. I expect to be let
go by the new year, in the name of profits and efficiencies.

My parent companies are Heinz and McCain Foods. Just sick what I've
            seen recently.

So for you Gino, a idea for a bumper sticker that was sent to me a
            week or so ago:

            Kerry & Edwards
So much bullshit between the two you NEED two Johns

With that I say my next employer could be Quad Graphics....

Who currently, along with CN/IC have their private varnish trains at
the PGA Tour this week. $$$$$$$$$$$$

              Hi All,

Hate to get involved with this but after reading what appears to be just
another "Blame Canada" letter I really think I need to open my trap.

I live in a city of 20,000 right across the St. Lawrence River form New
York State. Since the Free Trade deal was signed back in the '80s we
watched most of our employers being bought up by their American
competitors, only to be closed weeks later. Philips Cables was closed
by a company in Chicago, 550 jobs lost. Microtel was bought by GE and
the contracts they held were diverted to GE Chicago, leaving our plant
to complete the contract they were working on and then the plant was
closed, all 800 workers were terminated. Black and Decker Canada
employed 1200 people, 25 in the R&D department are left, the rest of the
work went to Baltimore, Mexico, and Brazil.

This is common across Canada, Marathon Ontario was a pulp and paper
town, if you weren't employed by the mill, you worked in some sort of
service or store that was dependent on the mill's employees. An
American company in Wisconsin bought the mill, along with it's timber
rights, closed the mill but kept the loggers so they can strip our
forests and float them over Lake Superior to the mill in Wisconsin.
McCain Foods might have bought your food plant but at least they didn't
              buy it to close it.

If CN bought IC so what, there was no railroad in United Stated
interested in partnering with them. Should we all bitch that Rail
America keeps buying every branchline that comes up for abandonment in
              Canada?

Just my thoughts, we will return to regular programming now!

              Paul :-)
