Found out about this from an LDS artist-related list,
but one of the members of that said that he saw this
in the Church News this morning.
Two more temples will be built in Arizona. One will
be in the tri-city area of Safford/Thatcher/Pima, and
the second will be built a relatively short distance
from the Mesa temple, in Gilbert.
The southeast valley is experiencing highly explosive
growth in the LDS membership of the area. A brother
on a high council there (now he's in a bishopric) said
they could not build meetinghouses fast enough. So
much so they had to shave a few minutes off each
Sunday meeting so they could get as many as five wards
in a building, and boundary changes took place as
often as every six months as new wards and even stakes
Much of this is also due to the construction of a
major freeway and plans for another in the area. The
Loop 202 is complete in this area and the plans for
another freeway spur off the 202, tentatively known as
the 802, are in the works.
