The sort order is: (you had 1 and 2 backwards)
      1. Personal Submission
      2. LDS Membership
      3. Alphabetical

The next update should allow you to select a record without making a
Personal Submission. (Other Opinion is a Personal Submission)

Also in the next update when someone selects a default display name
it will display for all not just for the person who selects it. The
Personal Submission option we have now only works for the person who
      enters it.

When you type in Another Opinion it becomes a personal submission and
does add another record to the folder, but you do not need to combine
it, it will already be in the folder. If you add a new individual
that is already in the system, then you would need to combine it.

The next update allows any user to select the default record to
display in the pedigrees for everyone to see so that each user does
not need to enter Another Opinion in order to get the most correct
entry to show in the pedigrees.

ward clerk must have added the death date on Sunday because on Tuesday the
26th when I did a search for her, NFS already had the death date added.
NFS was updated before the funeral was held!

              Hi all:

At the recent FH Conference in St. George, we were shown the upcoming upgrade for nFS where we will be given an drop-down menu with options for the name we wish to use. I know this will help us all and relieve that frustration of having someone elses version of a name there. We will eventually have a choice.

Also, another thing that is coming down the pipeline are programs like Family Insight, to help us with some of the things that seem tedious now.

I may have already mentioned this, can't remember (too many gray hairs),but one of the things we have to remember about the nFS is that it is not "my " database, but "our" database.

President Hinckley had a vision of an "eternal database" a database for the generations--something that will outlast us. So we don't have to "hurry" and get it all done at once. We can do our merging at our leisure. If we have a particular person that we want to do temple work for, work on merging just that family for now. Clean up the ones that we really want to do the work for.

I know that I too have thought of this as quite a tedious program, but with the increased vision, it does not bother me like it did. Take our time, make it right, go forward with faith and all will work out,.

I have been working with a family that has 15 children.
Each one was in the nfs at least 3 times some as many as 5 times.
One of the children who was in there 5 times had a first and last name 4 of
the times and only a first name the 5th time. When I combined them, the one
that comes up for the primary is the one without a last name. I have tried
to add the last name to the primary name, but the program will not allow me to
do so because I was not the initial submitter (the submitter is listed as
                LDS Temple).
I am having the same problem with all 15 of the children.
The family now shows almost all of the children without last names.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
                Thanks,
                Donna

Just found this today from my computer specialist. On nFS homepage, click on News or Updates. It is now possible to choose the information to display for an individual. "For deceased individuals, users can choose the name, gender, birth, christening, death, and burial information to display in the individual summary. Users, not the system, now choose the common view."
