      All,

Every week, the teams supporting Family History Centers sponsored by
the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, receive requests
from center technical staff and Stake Technology Specialists, asking
to receive technical-related emails that are sent to FHC Directors. A
new group has been created that is dedicated to sharing technical
information to those that support the computer and networks of the
4500 centers around the world. It is located here:

      http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ldsfhctech

This is a private & moderated group and you must be approved in order
to join it. Any postings you submit will have to be approved by the
moderators before the posting will become available to its members.

Requests for access should be sent to ldsfhctech-subscribe @
yahoogroups.com <spaces added so it is visible when posted in other
forums, remove them> and include the following information for the
people that wish to be added:

      FHC ID Number
      FHC Name
      FHC Director's Name

      Full Name(s)
      Email(s)
      Location (City, State, Country)
      Preferred Language

Emails requesting membership must be sent from ldsmail.net accounts
or permission to join will automatically be denied.

      Sincerely,

      Message 2 of 2 , Jun 12, 2007
        All,

I apologize for the confusion that people are experiencing regarding
joining the LDSFHCTech group. The request to join the group must
originate from an ldsmail.net account. This way center directors
will be able to approve who gains access as we will be posting
information that should be kept secure (i.e. passwords and such).
Anyone that a director requests to be given access will get access.

Here is one MAJOR CHANGE in the process for submitting the request.
Emails should be sent to shawlh and tvedtnesmp at ldschurch.org. The
body of the email needs to include this information:

        FHC ID Number
        FHC Name
        FHC Director's Name

Full Name of the person to be added to the group
Email of the person to be added to the group
        Location (City, State, Country)
        Preferred Language

Multiple people can be added at the same time.

Once we receive the request, we will send an invitation to the email
        (s) that are listed in the body of the email. If the director also
wishes that the ldsmail.net account be added, they must include it in
the body of the email as well.

Some have asked why we need a new group instead of just using FHCNet
        or FHCTech:

        1) It is so we have a place to communicate information directly to
FHC technical support staff, that is somewhat secure, and those in
the group know from where the information is coming from.

        2) It will provide a location for us to share info that doesn't
overwhelm the other groups (as some have expressed is happening).

        3) The info that is shared with one person, will be made available to
many, and the data is automatically archived.

        4) Most important, is that I'll be able to recruit assistance from
the rest of the Church Headquarters team in FamilySearch Support in
providing answers to questions. I personally will be participating
less in the other groups as my time is limited. Besides which, I
only specialize in a few of the technical aspects at FHCs. We will
        benefit by having others participate.

        5) It is likely that much of the information shared within this group
will NOT go out through "official" channels, as it will be highly
technical in nature. I expect we will be able to add to our
knowledge base content and when necessary, send out "official" memos
to centers based on the discussions held here, but those will most
likely be few and far between.

        6) You should continue to use the other groups so you can get help
from each other (as you've been doing for many years). I do not know
the extent of how this new group will be used, but it will be limited
to a degree based on time and resources.

        Sincerely,

        Lynn Shaw
