When the original version of FamilySearch.org was started ten years ago, they ran a very basic, and rudimentary mailing list service that was called 'collaboration lists'. Those were discontinued about two years ago.

There is now an area on the FamilySearch Support Forums called 'social groups' that does the same thing for the most part.

Go to http://forums.familysearchsupport.org/ and look in the bar that has the FAQ tag in it for 'Community'. After you see that get the dropdown menu to appear, then click 'social groups' on the dropdown. There are at least nine groups already discussing various genealogy topics from some wards having them to surname groups.
