      Visa granted to a bi-national same-sex couple

The Colombian Consulate in Berlin granted a special temporary visa to a same-sex couple (an unusual combination procedure) to a German, the partner of a Colombian, both residents of that city.

The couple has been living together since 1999, and had legalized their relationship since January 2002 in Germany and because of it, the Colombia was able to get permission to be a resident for three years, a work permit and medical insurance.

Later, they gave power-of-attorney to Germán Humberto Rincón Perfetti for his to legalize their relationship (in absentia) in Bogotá, and this document was sent by mail to Berlin where they presented their documentation to the embassy.

The German expressed that:  "The legal possibilities of gays in Colombia are really very astonishing, almost a little absurd, looking at all of the injustice that there is in that country in other matters."
