I may have confused Alan (legal alien ???) with "AJ" but I still
maintain that the post about ceasing the submission of news from
America bears some explaining. Is this an international forum or
some exclusive domain? What's ticked you guys off that you can't
bear receiving updates on an issue that affects us all?

Yes the world is much bigger than American, and not all GBLT folk are
mlke, not all of us are wealthy and not all of us over 40 are Grumpy
              and bitter, and carrying baggage.

"You" think too much "US" news is being posted?

I hope "you'll" remember that the next time "you" invite the group
to atttend an event that is occurring in Sidney, Bribane. etc.

There is NOTHING to prevent "you" from posting news and/or articles
that is more global, or news that affects "you".

And there is nothing forcing you to read any post/e-mail that does
              not interest you.

yup, i love that song - "i love a sunburnt country+ - it should have
been our national anthem... when i was married and a str8 pretender, we
(my family) used to sing it in the car while travelling... singing and
memorising stiff (scriptures) used to while away the hours that
distance between places in OZ makes boring..

and the poem/song does describe australia well.. it was written by
dorothy Mckellar, at a time when many australians wanted to move away
from the thought that england was home and the be all and end all of
life (the british empire was still exhibiting a fascination with glory)
and saw the beginning of something uniquely australian. this dichotomy
still exists - well illustrated by john howard's fascination with using
his head to explore the nether parts of george bush's body.. but at the
same time, as andrew well points out there is another part of the
australian psyche that is down-to-earth and no bull-shit. i love that
part of my world. just as i love the world described by the sunburnt
country verses. i've seen the wide brown plains, and the stark white
reing-barked forests - yup! beautiful in the moonlight, but also
illustrating the rape of the land by men and women that did not
                understand it.

i'd better stop at taht point...

i also see the down side of OZ - our origins and smallness makes
intellectual life more difficult.. being a witness, going house to
house, did mean that i've been in the homes of many australians - in
most, the absence of books is conspicuously noticeable. maybe that's
the same in most countries.... and for the defenders of OZ, yup! i
acknowledge that there have been many intellectual giants - but also
note that many have mentioned the disinterest in the intellect..

so braden - to be honest NOT much happens in OZ that is not a pale
reflection of life elsewhere. but, when it does (and may be of interest
to this group) i try to share as my work may permit....

i appreciate jay's posts - i do not have to read them if they do not
appeal... but i scan them all - copy to my hard disc what i like to re-
gurgitate some time in the future when i want to make a point..

the whole world belongs to ALL people..

but, the moment we start to think and talk in those terms some Fxxkwit
(a term used purposely) says that there is an international (socialist)
conspiracy to destroy national identities... where, could such a
                  stupid idea originate .. ???????
