Downtown Manufacturing Building Wrecked Last Friday

BALTIMORE WI Damage in a blaze that destroyed part of a large
downtown manufacturing building Friday may run as high as half
a million dollars, insurance adjustors estimate.
More than 200 firemen fought flames and thick, acrid smoke at
109 Light St. near the waterfront. |
But although they plunged into the smoke-filled structure and clambered upon its sixth-floor roof via ladders, only one man was hurt.
Firefighter Norman Jennings, 28, was overcome by smoke as he
manned a hose inside the building, but quickly recovered after treatment.
The fire was confined to the upper floors of the building, occupied by tthe Cheston L. Eshelman Co.|
The firm makes the kind of small cars clowns ride in the circus, lawn tractors and other items.
Water damage was believed extensive in the lower floors.
