The Catholic Children's Aid Society of Toronto has an opportunity available for an Accounts Payable Supervisor. Reporting to the Director of Finance, Administration & IT, the incumbent will supervise the Accounts Payable section, consisting of 4 accounting assistants who are responsible for processing all requisitions for payment, including both internal and external expenses to care providers, commercial accounts and employees.
Managing the effective processing of all accounts payable; determining the team's work priorities; initiating changes to internal processing procedures as required;
Checking requisitions for approval of disbursements; verifying amounts of care providers disbursement; allocating funds to appropriate bank accounts and approving all disbursements prior to release;
Providing interpretation of accounts payable policy and procedures to Agency staff;
Ensuring that all payments are consistent with the Society's Procurement Policies and Procedures;
Supervising staff including hiring of staff, assessing and evaluating performance; identifying staff development needs and training staff on new accounting policies and procedures;
Maintaining and trouble-shooting the Accounts Payable software;
Responsibility for the maintenance of the department's safe, vault and storage room which are used for all accounting files and other records; ensuring the yearly review of files for adherence to records management procedures in coordination with other department supervisors;
Ensuring quality assurance processes are implemented to achieve positive outcomes for children, youth and families served;
Working in a safe manner in accordance with the Society's Health and Safety Policies and procedures and all relevant legislation.
Excellent knowledge of accounting principles and practices and an understanding of accounting policies and procedures;
Demonstrated knowledge of computer based accounting packages;
Analytical skills to handle special accounting problems;
Excellent communication skills to liaise with employees within the Agency and to advise on and interpret accounting policies and procedures;
Strong management skills including:
organizational skills to ensure that the team is running in an efficient manner;
skills to facilitate group process and develop effective work teams;
coaching skills to transfer knowledge, build skills and foster staff's growth and professional development; and
mediation skills to resolve differences effectively;
An understanding of the role of management in an unionized environment;
Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, integrating the values in the CCAS Mission Statement, the principles of equity, justice, non-discrimination and accessibility into practice, service delivery and team relationships;
Experience of personal computer operations and software packages, including: Windows, Lotus Notes, Excel, Word, Lotus 123, Microsoft Internet Explorer.
Diploma in accounting and/or enrolment in CGA/CMA program in the intermediate level;
Experience in a mainframe accounting environment;
Knowledge of CCAS accounting policies and procedures or related not-for-profit/government work experience;
Experience in dealing with external auditors.
