        PRESS & MEDIA RELATIONS MANAGER

        Job Description: Full-time staff position responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of the CoalitionÂ’s media strategy and activities. Working under the direction of the Communications Director, primary responsibilities include, but are not necessarily limited to: generating media coverage on behalf of campaign activities; developing and maintaining relationships with reporters; writing and editing press releases and other campaign materials; and other duties as assigned.

        Principal Duties and Responsibilities

        Work with Communications Director to develop and execute communication strategies and media plans to advance the campaign in coordination with campaign partner organizations, with an emphasis on regional (NW) strategy and activities.
        Write, produce and distribute media materials such as press releases, background briefings, fact sheets, od-eds and letters to the editor.
        Edit and assist in the preparation of other campaign materials, including campaign website content, as needed.
        Cultivate relationships with assigned reporters and provide timely, useful information that helps land stories on SOS issues and creates opportunities for campaign spokespersons, with an emphasis on those in the Northwest.
        Help develop and prepare messengers as campaign spokespeople to put a human face on our stories, and tell them in newsworthy ways.
        Assist in development of stories of regional and national interest in print and broadcast media and pitch them to reporters
        Organize editorial board visits, mailings and conduct outreach as needed.
        Coordinate press conferences, teleconferences, and other media events.
        Develop and maintain productive working relationships with coalition partners
        Maintain and update media database and various media distribution lists.
        Track and maintain media coverage files
        Manage individual communications projects as assigned.
        Assist with and contribute to other campaign programs as needed.
        Skills & Qualifications

        Minimum 3 years experience in communications, public relations, or journalism required. Political, non-profit or advocacy experience preferred.
        Proven track record of successfully working with media and securing press coverage, including experience building relationships with print, television, radio and online reporters.
        Excellent writing and editing skills.
        Strong verbal communication skills. Public speaking experience preferred.
        Confident, flexible self-starter able to work both independently and as part of a team. Must be able to relate to and establish rapport with diverse constituencies in multiple locations.
        Must work well under pressure and be able to produce under tight deadlines. Ability to juggle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment is a must.
        Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and internet research required.
        Basic graphic design skills and familiarity with basic HTML and Adobe Photoshop or InDesign preferred. Experience with blogs, social networking and other online media a plus.
        Experience with diverse coalitions, and familiarity with environmental, endangered species or clean energy issues a plus.

        Education
        Bachelor degree in communications, journalism, environmental studies, or other relevant area of study preferred. Relevant experience may be substituted for education.

          the development and implementation of the Coalition's media strategy
          and activities. Working under the direction of the Communications
          Director, primary responsibilities include, but are not necessarily
          limited to: generating media coverage on behalf of campaign activities;
          developing and maintaining relationships with reporters; writing and
          editing press releases and other campaign materials; and other duties as
          assigned.

          Principal Duties and Responsibilities

          * Work with Communications Director to develop and execute
          communication strategies and media plans to advance the campaign in
          coordination with campaign partner organizations, with an emphasis on
          regional (NW) strategy and activities.
          * Write, produce and distribute media materials such as press
          releases, background briefings, fact sheets, od-eds and letters to the
          editor.
          * Edit and assist in the preparation of other campaign materials,
          including campaign website content, as needed.
          * Cultivate relationships with assigned reporters and provide timely,
          useful information that helps land stories on SOS issues and creates
          opportunities for campaign spokespersons, with an emphasis on those in
          the Northwest.
          * Help develop and prepare messengers as campaign spokespeople to put
          a human face on our stories, and tell them in newsworthy ways.
          * Assist in development of stories of regional and national interest
          in print and broadcast media and pitch them to reporters
          * Organize editorial board visits, mailings and conduct outreach as
          needed.
          * Coordinate press conferences, teleconferences, and other media
          events.
          * Develop and maintain productive working relationships with
          coalition partners
          * Maintain and update media database and various media distribution
          lists.
          * Track and maintain media coverage files
          * Manage individual communications projects as assigned.
          * Assist with and contribute to other campaign programs as needed.

          Skills & Qualifications

          * Minimum 3 years experience in communications, public relations, or
          journalism required. Political, non-profit or advocacy experience
          preferred.
          * Proven track record of successfully working with media and securing
          press coverage, including experience building relationships with print,
          television, radio and online reporters.
          * Excellent writing and editing skills.
          * Strong verbal communication skills. Public speaking experience
          preferred.
          * Confident, flexible self-starter able to work both independently
          and as part of a team. Must be able to relate to and establish rapport
          with diverse constituencies in multiple locations.
          * Must work well under pressure and be able to produce under tight
          deadlines. Ability to juggle multiple projects in a fast-paced
          environment is a must.
          * Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Word, Excel,
          Powerpoint, and internet research required.
          * Basic graphic design skills and familiarity with basic HTML and
          Adobe Photoshop or InDesign preferred. Experience with blogs, social
          networking and other online media a plus.
          * Experience with diverse coalitions, and familiarity with
          environmental, endangered species or clean energy issues a plus.

          Education
          Bachelor degree in communications, journalism, environmental studies, or
          other relevant area of study preferred. Relevant experience may be
          substituted for education.
