- The simplest way that I can think would be to use an astable version of the NE555 (CMOS version ?) driving an Infra-Red LED pointing towards the house. At the house side using an Op-Amp driven by an Infra- Red opto-transistor feeding a tone decoder (NE567 PLL IC). By setting up the astable using a preset pot, multiple "transmitters" can be used (trim for same frequency), on another tact - by slaving the amplified IR signal to multiple tone decoders and tuning each transmitter to the respective tone decoder frequency, you would be able to monitor individual "zones"
