Fresh Start Working Families Community Festival at Dodger Stadium on Saturday, August 17, 2013
Hope all is well …
On Saturday, August 17th , SEIU-United Long Term Care Workers (ULTCW) will be holding it’s Fresh Start Working Families Community Festival at Dodger Stadium from 12-5pm.
The purpose of the free daylong festival is to provide families who have been hard hit by the economy with valuable resources and to ensure that their children have the supplies necessary as they head back to school. Fresh Start will provide children with free Dodger backpacks and school supplies, as well as free haircuts for children. In addition to preparing children for the school year, the event will offer health screenings, community based resources, a picnic-style lunch and plenty of family entertainment. All free of charge.
The idea for the Fresh Start Festival came in response to the struggles facing California families. In Los Angeles County alone, 655,000 residents are without work - pushing the unemployment rate to 13.4 percent, over 2.7 million live without health insurance and therefore go without any form of preventative care, and the public school system struggles to fill a $640 million deficit thereby leaving children and classrooms without the supplies they need to be successful.
Please feel free to join us at Dodger Stadium on the 17th and share the attached fliers (English/Spanish/Chinese) with your respective organizations, schools and networks. For more information please visit http://www.freshstartfest.org/ or contact Miguel Paredes at SEIU ULTCW at 213-308-8213.
