      Here are the results from today's counts.

      The total count at Echo Park Lake was down, but the number of species was
      about the same as before, and includes three birds new to EP Lake -- acorn
      woodpecker, common raven and bufflehead. Although we ID'd killdeer, there
      were many more shorebird types that we could not ID: the fences kept us at
      a distance from them and no one had a scope. We did what we could.

      Over at Vista Hermosa, the growth of trees, shrubs, etc., is also giving
      rise to increased species. We had 17 this year, up from last year's 14. All
      common types, however.
