Re:  SR2/Glendale Freeway Terminus Project - community meetings - release of environmental report

    Dear Neighbor,

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) has released the "Initial Study/Environmental Assessement" for the SR2/Freeway Terminus Project.  They will present their findings at a series of three community meetings -- Tuesday, June 9, Thursday, June 11, and Tuesday, June 16.  More information about these meetings and locations are included in this email.

The Echo Park Community Action Committee is reviewing this report and will offer its comments to Metro shortly.  We will also make a copy of our letter available to the community.  Members of the public are invited to comment, either at the meetings, in writing or verbally, or directly to Metro by mail or email.  You can also prepare your comments at home and take them to a meeting.

If you wish to read the environmental report, you can find copies at  the Echo Park Library, the Edendale Library, and the Atwater Village Library.  If you want a copy on CD, please contact Yesenia Arias at (909) 627-2974 or yarias@...

We urge you to attend one on these meetings.

Join us at the upcoming Community Workshops and Public Hearing

to review and comment on the State Route 2 Initial Study/Environmental Assessment Document

Metro and Caltrans have completed the Draft Initial Study/Environmental Assessment Document (IS/EA) for the State Route 2 Freeway Terminus Improvement Project.  As part of the public comment period Metro will host community workshops and conduct a public hearing.  Please plan on attending any of these meetings to learn more about plans to manage the traffic congestion at the SR-2 Freeway Terminus.  Evaluation of alternatives, traffic, safety, noise, aesthetics and other environmental considerations will be discussed at these meetings.

The community workshops will be conducted in an open house format with expert staff at hand to answer your questions.  A court reporter will be present at both the community workshops and public hearing to document verbal comments.  A formal comment session will be conducted at the June 16 public hearing.

The 45-day comment period is from May 18 to July 2.  All written comments must be received on or before July 2 .  If you have any comments about the project, please submit them to Irv Taylor, One Gateway Plaza, Mail Stop 99-22-2, Los Angeles, CA 90012-2952 or e-mail them to taylori@....  For more information you can also visit the metro website at http://www.metro.net/projects_programs
