I don't think I can go - too many things going that week plus the rest of my life, but the questions they will be dealing with are VERY important.  Would you mind posting a report to this forum for everyone's benefit is you and/or others go?

Note:  This is not the usual Board of Neighborhood Commissioners meeting.  It is an opportunity for you to obtain some answers to the questions many of us have regarding the benefits and detriments of becoming a neighborhood council.  Please join the Pacific Palisades Community Council as we try to obtain answers to these questions.

.................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. The Pacific Palisades Community Council is hosting a meeting of the City of Los Angeles Board of Neighborhood Commissioners to which the public is invited on June 14, 2001 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Palisades High School's Mercer Hall. The PPCC, like many other neighborhood organizations, must decide whether to become a "neighborhood council" in accordance with the plan recently adopted by the City Council. This plan has been the subject of many questions and issues such as: the indemnification, if any, which will be provided by the City to the Boards of neighborhood councils, the applicability of the Brown Act to meetings of a Board's committees, can members of the Board be appointed by an organization instead of being elected and the type of bookkeeping procedures which must be adopted.

This meeting is an opportunity to hear, and participate in, a discussion of these and other issues as the Neighborhood Commissioners, a representative from the City Attorney's Office and representatives from the Department of Neighborhood Empowerment will answer questions relating to issues raised at the meeting by members of the PPCC and other persons in the audience. The PPCC has functioned effectively for over 20 years without official standing and without the restrictions that will accompany becoming a neighborhood council. At issue is whether community groups can best serve their communities by becoming city entities or by remaining independent of the city. For further information call (310) 454-4667.

      Hope to see you.
