      Well, easy: gold carries always some uranium
      Uranium decay produce helium, that is trapped inside crystalline estructure of gold. Production of helium is done at a known rate.
      When you melt gold, helium is relased from the crystal trap, and could be measured, if done in a labo, or just lost if simply melt to produce something,
      When you know the uranium content and the helium released, you could do te maths to know how many years ago the gold was melt (n in other words: each time gold is melted, the clock is reset.)

      If date is too modern, well, .....
