Rusted Woodlands Polling
The Shire of Rusted Woodlands has just mailed a polling with regard to
the possible change of our status. Mailing date Friday July 28th, 2000,
to be returned to the Southern Region Seneschal by August 28th, 2000.
All paid members (membership expiration date after August 28th, 2000) of
the SCA, 14 years of age and over resident within Rusted Woodlands
(Bergen, Passaic and Sussex counties in New Jersey, and Orange and
Rockland counties in New York) are eligible to vote. If an eligible
member does not receive a polling letter in the mail within the next few
days, the following procedure is to be used to enable that member to have
their vote counted.
The polling labels we have received from Corporate Headquarters in
Milpitas, CA are missing several members, and there is the possibility of
the Post Office not delivering all the polling letters mailed.
Accordingly if anyone who is a paid SCA member does not receive a polling
letter (being mailed July 28th, with a return deadline of August 28th),
that person in order to be included in the polling must mail to the
Regional Seneschal (Name and address below) a SASE along with a proof of
membership (copy of membership card or Pikestaff label) with an
expiration date after the closing date of the poll (August 28th) to the
Southern Region Seneschal;

The Polling is to determine if we will remain a shire, change to a
Barony, or become a Province. Either change in status will allow us to
form a Canton, as a subsidiary group in areas which are too far for easy
access from the current activities of the Forest. A change to Province
would leave us essentially unchanged except for the ability to form
Cantons. A change to Barony would involve the selection of a Baron/ess
by an additional polling, the creation or acquisition of appropriate
regalia, and the ability to create Baronial orders, as well as the
ability to from Cantons.
