Assassinated on 8 March 1978
Thomas Trainor, aged 29, was shot by a loyalist Ulster Volunteer Force
gunman on a motorcycle while walking along the Armagh Road in
Portadown with his brother Frankie and a friend, Denis Kelly (who was
also killed in the attack). Three thousand people attended his funeral.
He was threatened by the Royal Ulster Constabulary on numerous
occasions, including being told that the British Army's Special Air
Service would get him.
His brother Ronnie (an INLA volunteer) and their mother Dorothy were
both murdered by loyalists in 1975.
He died as he lived: a Republican Socialist. Remember him with honour
