      SNOW WARNING
      SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT
      HARRISON WEATHER CENTER OPERATIONS
      FORECAST OPERATIONS DIVISION / EMAIL - hwcwx@...
NOAA - NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICIAL COOPERATIVE WEATHER STATION
      FRIDAY DECEMBER 18, 2009
      FORECASTER: MONDARO

FIRST SIGNIFICANT SNOW STORM APPEARS LIKELY SATURDAY NIGHT

IF TRAVELING SOUTH ON SATURDAY YOU WON'T HAVE TO GO FAR BEFORE
HITTING SNOW IN THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN REGION FROM ABOUT MID DAY ON
GIVEN THE LATEST FORECAST INFORMATION. THERE IS GOING TO BE A LOT OF
DRY AIR ALOFT SO I THINK IT'S GOING TO TAKE MOST OF THE DRY TO GET
THE SNOW TO REACH THE GROUND AND I WON'T BE SHOCKED IF IT WAITED
UNTIL THE EVENING HOURS TO START SNOWING HERE IN THE TRI COUNTY AREA.

THE FOLLOWING THINKING IS BASED ON THE LATEST INFORMATION AT THE WEATHER
CENTER GIVEN THE TRACK AND THE INTENSITY OF THE STORM SYSTEM, IF THE
TRACK SHIFTS IT WILL AFFECT THE AMOUNT OF SNOW WE ARE CURRENTLY
FORECASTING; OUR CONFIDENCE ON THE FORECAST IS GOOD AT THIS TIME.

WE EXPECT THE SNOW TO BEGIN BETWEEN 3PM TO 6PM ON SATURDAY EVENING WITH
THE SNOW BECOMING HEAVY AT TIMES, ESPECIALLY OVERNIGHT SATURDAY INTO
SUNDAY MORNING, IT WILL ALSO BECOME WINDY WITH BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF
THE SNOW, THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF A THUNDERSTORM. LOOK FOR 4 TO 8
INCHES OF SNOWFALL BY SUNDAY MORNING AT SUNRISE WITH THE STORM POTENTIAL
OF 6 TO 10 INCHES BY THE TIME THE STORM TAPERS DOWN TO FLURRIES BETWEEN
9AM TO 12 NOON ON SUNDAY,

POST STORM WEATHER LOOK FOR MAINLY CLEAR SKIES FOR MONDAY, TUESDAY AND
WEDNESDAY WITH AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES IN THE 30S AND MORNING LOW
      TEMPERATURES IN THE 20S.

ANY MELTING SNOW DURING THE DAY WILL REFREEZE ON SURFACES THAT HAVE NOT
      BEEN TREATED OR PROPERLY DRIED.

FORECASTERS HERE AT THE HARRISON WEATHER CENTER WILL CLOSELY MONITOR
      THIS DEVELOPING WINTER STORM.
