Be advised that the predicted upcoming storm event (Thursday into
Friday of this week) carries with it the potential for Freezing Rain
and Ice Accretion in some areas of NNJ....Freezing Rain occurs when
rain falls on surfaces that are themselves below freezing and coats
      them with an ice buildup.

Items vulnerable to ice buildup include power and telephone lines
which can come down due to the weight of the ice and cause local and
even widespread outages, which may result in a need for ARES
activations. Before the onset of the storm is the time to
check/charge your communications systems battery/backup power items.

Below is one of the Winter Storm Watches issued by NWS Mt Holly NJ
early this AM (NNJ counties under the Watch include Sussex, Morris
and Warren at this time)....please monitor your local sources for
further Watches and Warnings over the next 24-48 hours....also be
advised that in areas where the rain does not freeze or fall as
snow, there is an expectation for as much as 1-1.5 inches of liquid
precipitation to accompany this event...this could lead to some
urban and street flooding due to the frozen ground not being able to
absorb the water....should more definitive info come out from either
NWS Mt Holly or NWS Upton for the NNJ Section...I will forward it
      along.

...ANOTHER WINTER STORM ON THE WAY WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR

...WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH
      FRIDAY MORNING...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MOUNT HOLLY HAS ISSUED A WINTER
STORM WATCH...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH
      FRIDAY MORNING.

SNOW CHANGING TO A WINTRY MIX OF SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN...THEN
POSSIBLY ALL RAIN IS EXPECTED LATE THURSDAY INTO FRIDAY.

LOW PRESSURE FROM THE CENTRAL GULF STATES IS EXPECTED TO MOVE
NORTHEAST TO THE VIRGINIA COAST BY THURSDAY NIGHT. THIS LOW IS
THEN FORECAST TO INTENSIFY AS IT CONTINUES TO MOVE NORTHEAST ALONG
THE COAST TO NEW ENGLAND BY FRIDAY NIGHT.

PRECIPITATION FROM THIS SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN AS SNOW
THURSDAY AFTERNOON. HOWEVER, AS WARMER AIR SLOWLY MAKES ITS WAY
      NORTH,
SNOW IS EXPECTED TO MIX WITH SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN THURSDAY
NIGHT BEFORE CHANGING OVER TO RAIN LATE THURSDAY NIGHT.
UNFORTUNATELY, WITH SO MUCH COLD AIR LOCKED INTO THE AREA, A
PROLONGED PERIOD OF FROZEN PRECIPITATION RESULTING IN SIGNIFICANT
ICE ACCUMULATIONS ACROSS THE REGION IS POSSIBLE THURSDAY NIGHT.
WHILE IT IS TOO EARLY TO PREDICT EXACT AMOUNTS, SEVERAL INCHES OF
SNOW IS POSSIBLE, ALONG WITH A QUARTER INCH OR MORE OF ICE
ACCUMULATION ON EXPOSED SURFACES. A WINTER WEATHER WATCH HAS
THEREFORE BEEN ISSUED FOR THURSDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH FRIDAY
      MORNING.

SNOW MIXING WITH AND CHANGING TO SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN COULD
MAKE DRIVING VERY TREACHEROUS LATE THURSDAY AFTERNOON INTO
THURSDAY NIGHT, AND POSSIBLY THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING IN THE HIGHER
ELEVATIONS. IN ADDITION, TREES AND POWER LINES WILL BE EXPOSED TO
INCREASED STRESS IF THE REGION EXPERIENCES A PROLONGED PERIOD OF
      FREEZING RAIN.

AS THE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS WINTER WEATHER
MOVES NORTHEAST INTO NEW ENGLAND ON FRIDAY, NORTHWEST WINDS WILL
BRING IN ANOTHER ROUND OF COLD WEATHER FOR THE WEEKEND.

A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT
SNOW...SLEET...OR ICE ACCUMULATIONS THAT MAY IMPACT TRAVEL.
CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS AS THIS EVENT UNFOLDS.
