    The following weather information has been provided to the Morris County Office of Emergency Management. This information is being provided to you for situational awareness.

     

    SEVERE THREAT: VIOLENT & SEVERE T-STORMS LATE PM / EVENING

    TIME FRAME: MAIN THREAT 6 – 8 PM (ISOLATED T-STORMS 12 – 6 PM)

    A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION IS DEVELOPING FOR LATE THIS AFTERNOON / EVENING. A POWERFUL

    COLD FRONT IS EXPECTED TO CROSS THE REGION AND INTERACT WITH A WARM, HUMID AND VERY

    UNSTABLE ENVIRONMENT. AS A RESULT, POP-UP SHOWERS AND T-STORMS WILL BE POSSIBLE ANY TIME

    AFTER NOON TODAY. ALTHOUGH THESE WILL BE HIGHLY ISOLATED IN NATURE, SOME OF THEM COULD BE

    STRONG TO SEVERE. THE MAIN THREAT, HOWEVER, WILL OCCUR LATER THIS EVENING, AS A LINE OF VIOLENT

    AND SEVERE T-STORMS IS EXPECTED TO CROSS THE AREA. THESE WILL LIKELY BE ACCOMPANIED BY

    EXCESSIVE CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING, ALONG WITH HEAVY DOWNPOURS AND DAMAGING WINDS

    (POSSIBLY GUSTING 60 – 70+ MPH). A FEW ISOLATED TORNADOES ARE ALSO POSSIBLE. AREAS OF MODERATEHEAVY

    RAIN WILL CONTINUE BEHIND THE MAIN LINE OF T-STORMS FOR AN ADDITIONAL HOUR OR TWO.

    AFTER THAT, THE RAIN WILL QUICKLY TAPER OFF, WITH PARTIAL CLEARING EXPECTED AFTER MIDNIGHT.

    Areas of low clouds, fog and a few showers early on give way to a

    few breaks of late-morning/midday sun. Isolated pop-up t-storms

    developing after noon, with a line of severe t-storms possible

    between 6-8 pm. Main threats: damaging winds/excessive lighting.

    Highs: Mid 80’s

    TONIGHT

    T-storms, followed by an area of moderate to heavy rain continue

    through late evening, then tapering off around midnight.

    Continued breezy, with partial clearing towards daybreak.

    Lows: Near 60

    SUNDAY Partly sunny skies mix with afternoon cloudy intervals.

    Otherwise, cooler and much less humid.

        LINE OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING DAMAGING WINDS IN
        EXCESS OF 60 MPH.  THESE STORMS WERE LOCATED ALONG A LINE EXTENDING
        FROM 46 MILES WEST OF WEST MILFORD TO 53 MILES WEST OF PLAINFIELD
        TO 48 MILES WEST OF PLAINFIELD TO 67 MILES SOUTHWEST OF
        PLAINFIELD...OR ALONG A LINE EXTENDING FROM 33 MILES WEST OF
        HOPATCONG TO 42 MILES WEST OF SUCCASUNNA-KENVIL TO 32 MILES
        NORTHWEST OF EWING TO 39 MILES WEST OF EWING...AND MOVING EAST AT
        45 MPH.

      PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

      DOPPLER RADAR HAS INDICATED ROTATION WITHIN SOME STORMS IN THE LINE.
      WHILE NOT IMMEDIATELY LIKELY...A TORNADO COULD DEVELOP. IF A TORNADO
      IS SPOTTED...ACT QUICKLY AND MOVE TO A PLACE OF SAFETY IN A STURDY
      STRUCTURE...SUCH AS A BASEMENT OR SMALL INTERIOR ROOM.

      THESE STORMS HAVE A HISTORY OF PRODUCING WIND DAMAGE ACROSS EASTERN
      PENNSYLVANIA. SEEK SHELTER INSIDE A STURDY STRUCTURE AS THESE STORMS
      APPROACH AND STAY AWAY FROM WINDOWS!
