      PUBLIC SEVERE WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
      1131 AM CDT TUE SEP 18 2012

...SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH WIDESPREAD DAMAGING WINDS AND A FEW
TORNADOES EXPECTED OVER PARTS OF THE MID ATLANTIC STATES INTO
PORTIONS OF SOUTHERN NEW YORK THIS AFTERNOON INTO TONIGHT...

THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER IN NORMAN OK IS FORECASTING THE
DEVELOPMENT OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH WIDESPREAD DAMAGING WINDS
AND A FEW TORNADOES OVER PARTS OF THE MID ATLANTIC STATES INTO
PORTIONS OF SOUTHERN NEW YORK THIS AFTERNOON INTO TONIGHT.

THE AREAS MOST LIKELY TO EXPERIENCE THIS ACTIVITY INCLUDE

             WASHINGTON DC
             MUCH OF DELAWARE
             MUCH OF MARYLAND
             CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA
             WESTERN NEW JERSEY
             PORTIONS OF SOUTHERN NEW YORK
             CENTRAL AND EASTERN PENNSYLVANIA
             CENTRAL AND EASTERN VIRGINIA
A SMALL PART OF EASTERN WEST VIRGINIA

ELSEWHERE...SEVERE STORMS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE FROM PORTIONS OF SOUTH
CAROLINA NORTHWARD INTO SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND.

A LARGE STORM SYSTEM AND ITS ASSOCIATED COLD FRONT WILL IMPACT THE
EASTERN UNITED STATES THROUGH TONIGHT. AS A HUMID AIR MASS IS DRAWN
NORTHWARD IN ADVANCE OF THE FRONT...THUNDERSTORMS WILL CONTINUE
DEVELOPING FROM THE SOUTHEAST ACROSS THE MID ATLANTIC AND EVENTUALLY
INTO THE NORTHEAST. STRONG WINDS ALOFT WILL SUPPORT MULTIPLE
FAST-MOVING SQUALL LINES WITH WIDESPREAD DAMAGING WINDS AND A FEW
TORNADOES ACROSS THE MODERATE RISK AREA...WHICH ENCOMPASSES PARTS OF
THE MID ATLANTIC STATES INTO PORTIONS OF SOUTHERN NEW YORK.

STATE AND LOCAL EMERGENCY MANAGERS ARE MONITORING THIS DEVELOPING
SITUATION. THOSE IN THE THREATENED AREA ARE URGED TO REVIEW SEVERE
WEATHER SAFETY RULES AND TO LISTEN TO RADIO...TELEVISION...AND NOAA
WEATHER RADIO FOR POSSIBLE WATCHES...WARNINGS...AND STATEMENTS LATER
      TODAY.
