      Hi Homeschoolers,

We are trying to gather names of homeschool parents of special needs children who may be interested in serving on the Special Education Advisory Council (SEAC). This is a council that operates in the same manner as the Homeschool Advisory Councils.
They both advise the State Board of Education in their respective areas of education.

The Homeschool Advisory Councils have petitioned the State Board and SEAC for a specific Homeschool Seat on SEAC to no avail. State Board Liaison to the homeschool advisory councils, Jan Biggerstaff, asked for some names of parents who may be interested in serving. She made no guarantees but said she would see what she could do in creating a specific homeschool position on SEAC.

The recently passed homeschool law SB 404 mandates that the Dept. of Ed. “shall” adopt special ed. regulations for homeschoolers. Representation on SEAC would be beneficial for homeschoolers.  The meetings are held in Reno , but the State pays for travel (including air fare) for those who live out of the Reno area.

If any of you are interested and need more info., please reply to me off list at carl.lucas@... or call 775-273-1045.

      Thank You.

      Carl Lucas,
       President-Northern Nevada Homeschool Advisory Council
