Legos is not just for children any more. “When the hands are working, the mind is working,” Professor Walt Stevenson tells participants at a seminar hosted by Golden Gate University in San Francisco, CA. The seminar was designed to reveal GGU’s innovative and most requested teaching techniques. Who could have guessed that playing with Legos would be one of those techniques? At the GGU seminar, Stevenson’s class introduced “Serious Play”. The concept showed that while creating with Legos, participants were better able to use critical thinking skills, release creativity, and problem solving skills.
With this in mind the Elko County Library invites children of all ages to join us for a new after-school program, “Let’s Go Play Legos!” Each Wednesday afternoon during the month of March from 3:30-4:30 pm, children are invited to create one-of-a-kind masterpieces using Legos. The library will supply the Legos for this program, but donations of any new and used Legos to the library would be gratefully appreciated.
