Group Description

Organic methods are tried & true.Composting creates nutrient rich, deep retentive,easy to work soil,with ideal drainage,plus some built-in disease resistance.The right soil,whether lean;arid;rich or moist,builds a stronger root system,& a more vibrant,weather adaptive plant.

Companion planting reduces insect damage.Natural predators can help too,if we understand insects & don't poison them all.Common ingredients can prevent powdery mildew & black spot; kill bugs or weeds!

Toiletries,& cleaning products can be mild, citrus or floral scented & non-toxic.Here,also find useful articles & links on gardening; nutrition; natural sciences;cooking; preserving produce;crafts, especially those using natural materials; etc.

There are many types of gardens & gardeners.A successful landscape design adapts to limitations, while expressing our tastes in color & form. Our use of time, space, climate, water & soil, factor in too.Drip irrigation, rain collection,or re-use through a gray water system, all manage time as well as water.Using a cold frame helps to extend the growing season in colder climates,& can also work well with containers & raised beds.

Plants, shrubs,& trees can provide beauty + shelter, ornamentation + food for birds, bees, butterflies & / or hummingbirds. Enticing toads, bats & beneficial insects to our gardens can reduce mosquitos & keep in check other types of insect activity, like egg laying,& plant damage. They are endangered today.

While protecting our local soils from becoming nutritionally depleted, & eroding due to life killing chemicals,we spare life near & far.As ground water feeds into streams, ponds, lakes, rivers,& oceans, lets try to help restore lifeforms along the way to their natural state.

Along the path of the gardening life,no matter how small the project, how mundane or creative the work or prolific the output - people of varying levels of gardening experience ultimately share in the simple ways nature can surprise, teach & please.
