- Hi Rachel,
I was thinking about this book exchange thingy. I think the
simplest would be to open a new database for books. Anyone can list
books they find interesting and want to share there. Anyone else
browsing the list can contact the person who listed the book to see if
a private arrangement can be made to obtain it.
I would suggest listing books and material that cannot be obtained
through the usual bookstores or through Amazon. Some of the things
that come to mind would be locally published "specialised" editions
from libraries of museums (like the Chinese starchart I purchase from
the HK Science Museum last weekend), or the replicas of 1st editions
of Chinese primary texts like this Song dynasty document on Cao Cao's
commentary on the Sunzi Pinfa published by the Shanghai Library.
These kinds of books and materials will never get into Amazon and even
local bookstores would find it hard to order them for you.
Just a few rules;
1. no pornography (that violates Yahoo Groups terms of service).
2. List book title, author, publisher and ISBN number.
3. If you list, be prepared to help someone obtain it. However, the
person who lists has final say on whether he/she will help obtain and
send the material.
4. All delivery costs to be borne by the person who orders the book
unless agreed otherwise.
5. Payment is to be made upfront before delivery.
6. DragonSeed Legacy, it's members and it's moderators are not liable
for any damages arising from the use of this service. All use of this
service is by private sale and is to conduct as such.
7. Be nice. This is a free voluntary service.
Mailing and logistics to be worked out privately. I suggest payment
through Paypal but that's up to the two parties involved.
I'm going to keep this book database on trial for 6 months to see if
it works. Do participate and make it active. Do also, suggest ways
to improve it and fine-tune the methodology.
