SATURDAY 21st September 2013
This lecture falls into two parts: the first was originally given in Leicester in 2010, the second in Brussels in 2011. This is the first time the whole lecture will be given as a whole. The contents of this evenings talk are advanced, the application is to the highest act of Magick: The Knowledge and Conversation of the Holy Guardian Angel, perhaps the most difficult and dangerous of all magickal rituals.
The evening will begin with an introduction to the Egyptian papyrus and the history of its discovery. We will then move on to its contents, the adoption of it by the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and its later adoption by Aleister crowley for his Occult Order of the A:.A:.
Break for refreshments.
The second part of the evening will be an investigation into the magical formulae of both Crowleys work and the papyrus itself with an attempt to draw out the original content of this ancient magical text.
Frater A. began his study of this material in 1993, publishing his initial findings in 1995 as 'Studies in Magical Papyri Vol I', in 1996 he published a monograph on some of the magical formulae in the papyrus as 'Magical Formulae in the Sarapis Oracle', in the same year his work on the text was consulted for Weisers edition of Aleister Crowleys 'Goetia' of which the preliminary Invocation is derived from our papyrus text. Since then he has refined and expanded his research and will be publishing the full findings in a series of works (beginning this autumn) which seeks to be the most comprehensive work on the subject to date.
