Abstract: A surprising array of parasites can be found lurking in undercooked fish and shellfish, and these pose a threat to the health of unsuspecting individuals. The rising popularity of sushi bars and international travel has increased the incidence of these parasites in the US. While many infections are self-limiting and tend to cause mild abdominal symptoms, some can be fatal if left untreated. Infections with all of these parasites can be prevented by adequately preparing and cooking seafood. Knowledge of the clinical manifestations caused by infection with these parasites is essential to correct diagnosis and proper treatment of infected patients.
