Group Description

DomePro is a private discussion group for topics related to the advancement of the planetarium / dome theater profession. The intention is to provide a forum for quality communication, and an environment for sharing ideas and innovations of interest to its primary membership demographic: planetarium and dome theater professionals.

The DomePro name was chosen carefully. Think of it as an upper-level course where seasoned professionals can discuss issues without polemics and poor posting etiquette.

Rather than functioning as "just another listserv," the focus here is on the issues facing modern planetaria or dome theaters. Examples of appropriate discussion topics include:

• Show production -- who's doing what, and how
• Making the best of the technology you have
• Successful marketing and funding mechanisms
• Presentation techniques
• Theater design
• Attendance and public perceptions

In particular, relevant commercial product announcements and press releases from "vendors" in the planetarium and dome theater field are welcome, keeping in mind DomePro's original intention to provide a forum for discussion.

The moderators will not allow seriously off-track contributions, flagrant flames, angry diatribes, or poorly focused ramblings with carelessly quoted tracts. Rehashes of ages-old debates such as "live vs. taped shows," "opto-mechanical vs digital stars," "Pluto is or is not a planet," "fulldome is or is not a planetarium," "global warming isn't real," "buy-a-star schemes," and so on are best discussed elsewhere.

DomePro moderators are: Mark Petersen and George Fleenor, who will approve all subscribers and postings to the group.
