  • Hi Reuel, For many years I have been using (with complete success) PET plastic bottles - 1.125 litre here in Oz - as have so many of my home brewing colleges. These bottles are used here for soft drink, ie Coke as well as other brands. I have had beer in these bottles for well in excess of 2 years. Just keep them in the dark. Hope that this helps. Cheers, Bob. ----- Original...

  • Hi Group and Jeremy, My (limited) experience tells me that with the use of Baker's yeast you may have had just a little too much sugar. I use metric measurements and - converting back and forth - I wouldn't have used any more than about 4 and 1/2 pounds sugar especially since you added the molasses. Baker's yeast has it's limitations. Try less sugar next time. If you are after a...

  • Hi Group, Is anyone in the group getting bulk SPAM?? I mean just over say the past 2-3 months, re Viagra, medications, prescriptions etc. My understanding is that Yahoo makes their money by dropping sponsor's advertisements at the end of each email that is sent out. I'm just wondering if they, or an unscrupulous employee, also get paid by selling off the mailing lists (someone...

  • Hi Group and Sven, I am trying to "perfect" rum and continually try different methods. After advise from this group, I re-use some of the spent wash (dunder) at the ratio of 1:2. 1 part dunder to two parts water. It works for me. Cheers, Bob. ----- Original Message ----- From: Sven Pfitt To: Distillers@^$1 Sent: Friday, January 09, 2004 7:02 AM Subject: [Distillers] Re: Stuck wash...

  • Hi group and Bill, This kind of yeast sounds more like a hobby within itself - seeing if you can get to the 25%. To me it sounds like a lot of unnecessary work just to get that extra couple of percent. With the yeasts that are available, that can handle 8 kilograms of sugar in a 25 litre wash, why go the extra miles?? Why use 3-4 times the amount of yeast to get to 25%, when the...

  • Hi Group and Dave, I have recently started using Turbo Pure 48 from Gert Strand. It was, I believe, initially designed for his "Amazing Plastic Still" so that the end product gave off little rubbish that would come through with the distillate. I run it through my pot still twice and trust me no carbon is necessary. Cheers, Bob. ----- Original Message ----- From: lynnehal To...
