      Cocktails/Spirit-based Alcoholic Beverages

This partly quite young category of alcoholic beverages is distinguished by the relatively low alcohol content (1.5 – approx. 10% by vol). The original concept for these beverages derives from bar and cocktail formulas for alcoholic mixed drinks.

The classical way of producing these alcoholic beverages with a low alcohol strength is based on the simple mixing of beer, wine or spirits with soft drinks of all kinds (e.g.whisky & cola, rum & cola, beer & lemonade, wine & fruit juice etc.).

Today, the decision for a suitable source of alcohol for low-alcoholic beverages is often based more on tax savings and cost efficiency of the source of alcohol than on the raw material nature of the alcohol base.
The production of coolers is handled in general by preparation of a throw syrup with simple further dilution with water (plus carbonation) in a second step.

Example Formula for Cola Whisky (8% v/v)

      4.60 kg Phosphoric Acid 85%
11.00 l Cola Flavour Emulsion nat.
      0.60 kg Caffeine, cryst.
      QS l Water, purified
      1000.00 l Cola Throw Syrup 1 + 5

Step 2: Formula for Cola Whisky, 8% v/v

      136.00 l Cola Syrup 1 + 5
      QS l Water, purified

      1000.00 l Cola Whisky, 8% v/v

Note: 6–8 g/l Carbonation as required; colour adjustment with caramel colour as desired.
