RE: [Distillers] gravity
- My old "Still Spirits" still only has a press-on lid. When I put scrubbers
in the column, which increased its resistance, I had to tie the lid on a bit
better using a "bungy" cord. Its still got a bit of stretch left in it
though so that the lid can still lift a little if it needs to vent some
excess pressure (like when a really sugary wash foams up badly and blocks
the narrow column ....) I like it doing that rather than blowing up.
Ultimately you shouldn't really be making something with too great a
pressure drop through the packing & column - as a rule of thumb you should
still be able to easily breath through it.
Any comments from guys running tall (1m) columns - do you need extra to hold
the lid on (or does the weight of the extra height assist) ?
