Amendments Act of 2008
The legislation gives telecommunications companies a free pass by providing immunity against lawsuits connected to their providing the government access to private phone records. It also extends the powers for the government surveillance program until 2012. Republicans overwhelmingly supported the bill, but the real battle was between conservative and liberal democrats. FSRN's Karen Miller has more.

UNEMPLOYED LAWYERS - Plan to Cut Public Defenders Could Leave Hundreds without Lawyers
The ABA Journal reports on two recent surveys by Lateral Link that found "nearly 30 percent of lawyers are afraid of losing their jobs and 26 percent dont think they will make their billable hours goals in the coming months. Most of the respondents who identified their workplaces in the surveys worked for Am Law 200 law firms, and most appeared to be associates." The rather obvious advice from Lateral Link? "Associates need to be more proactive about going out there . . . and finding work, . . .they need to be very mindful of their work product and very conscious of turning in the best possible work product they can, particularly if their hours are low.
By extension, law students should be looking into other careers.
Pele Robbed by Gang
As many as 10 people were reported to have been involved in the robbery, but Pele was unhurt in the incident. He was on his way from the city of Sao Paulo to a house he owns on the coast when the robbery happened at the entrance of a tunnel. The robbery took place earlier this month, but details have only just emerged. Police say there is frequent traffic congestion in the area, and that gangs from a nearby favela (shanty town) often take advantage of this to stage robberies. Robberies common. According to the newspaper Estado de Sao Paulo, Pele's car was surrounded by 10 armed men who took his gold necklace, a mobile phone and a watch. Pele was in the passenger seat of his car. According to his spokesman, when the gang recognised the former player they gave the driver back some items they had taken from him. The former Brazilian football star was not so lucky, as the gang then decided to flee on foot with his valuables. Pele, who is said to have remained calm during the robbery, a
pparently believed the men were high on drugs. The local police say they were not informed about the incident. Robberies of cars stopped at traffic lights or in congestion are not uncommon in Brazil, and many wealthy families have resorted to buying bullet-proof cars as a form of protection.

Radio One Unite with Yankelovich to Divide Black America
Talk about self-hatred. In an unprecedented strategy of house negroism, the Radio One American mainstream media-made elitist team of Negroes has come into cahoots with a socialist team of market researchers to develop a way to segment Black America into branches in a greedy capitalist attempt to put us up for sale in the global market....[Read more]
Diddy and Tracey Dating
Livesteez has reported that the rumor is actually the bona fide truth:Diddy is the funniest man Ive ever met. Im so lucky to find someone so soon after Eddie. Its early days - weve only been on three or four dates - but hes whisked me off my feet. I dont know about wedding bells but hes definitely the man for me.When this questionable quote from Tracey Edmonds was released last month, it was written off as inaccurate celebrity gossip.Apparently there is some truth to this statement. Highly placed sources have told Livesteez that Diddy and Tracey Edmonds are in fact an item. It has been alleged that the two hold their secret rendezvous at a paparazzi free zone - the Beverly Hills Hotel - quite frequently. This is no huge feat for Diddy, who has recently been linked to Cassie, Cameron Diaz, and of course, old faithful Kim Porter. Sources say that although Tracey has been known to date men for professional gain, the fact that former husband Babyface and his young girlfriend
are expecting a baby plays a big role in her quest for new meat. Source: Bossip
Ruben Studdard Married
American Idol Ruben Studdard and his fiancee Surata McCants:
Studdard, 29, arrived at the Shelby County Probate Office in Birmingham with fiance Surata Zuri McCants, 30, just before noon, filled out the paperwork and walked away with their license, an eyewitness says. Studdard is a Birmingham native. They looked really happy, says the eyewitness. Apparently, in Alabama, a marriage license is valid for 30 days. So its safe to assume theyre about to get hitched any day now. We wish em the best. Source: Bossip
