While step 2 is sensible in these days of spam. Steps 1 and 3 are of
questionable value in stopping spam. In some ways, they are also
mutually exclusive. If you screen who subscribes, there is almost no
need to screen what this selected group of subscribers will post.
3 places an extraordinary burden on the moderator and raises
fundamental questions about open-ness. What if I posted something
relevant but you, the administrator, disagreed with? What if,
furthermore, you moderated my post and rejected it? What if my
attempts at starting a discussion about the rejection of my post are
also moderated out?
1 will also place some strain on the moderator. But, if you must do
it, I suggest that you do.
