Shame that the two regnfrakked figures wi=h the old Saab (or is it a Volvo? - someone help us out!) are not both gir=sHaving explored the photo collection and theall too short video clips,&nb=p;I have a new found enthusiasm for your Kelly Longcoats, espeially the ma=ching hats, sou'westers in England. What do you call them in Norway?. I mi=ht even transfer my passion for the Viking 17s and red tartan-lined hoods =nbsp;to your preference.
I do like the photos from the 1960s commercial in the fish market. I t=ink however the grey-blue colour is more my taste than the bright yellow. = would gladly wear the blue-grey lovely looking material version down to o=r local market place, rain or sunshine!
My better-half, Jos, however is more taken with the two girls standing= perhaps even on our local railway station, waiting for the train into the=local shopping-centre town. He thinks they have met just by chance. and th= conversation has progressed to -
      - Girl A in whitish looking sou'wester : You are lucky, you have =ven got a matching sou'wester. That I would really like.
      - Girl B in matching sou'wester : Let us meet up after the shopping an= come back on the same train and you can wear mine for a bit. I'll let you=into a secret as well then.
      - Girl A : A secret? What can that be, I wonder?
      - Girl B : Well, let me say, I won't be able to take my lovely Longcao= off at all during the afternoon, no matter how nice the weather becomes!<=DIV>
Is that a good start, Jos?

Good to hear from you so soon. And the two women in the railway station - the one on the left is wearing a blue-gray Longcoat with a white sou'wester, the one on the right is wearing a yellow Longcoat with matching sou'wester.
        Norwegian for sou'wester is sydvest.
The Longcoat was introduced in 1957 and came in white, yellow, red, blue-gray, dark
blue and black. Incidentally - the Kelly range started in 1956 with the KellyCoat set, a jacket and trousers for the sailing people (women, of course), then came the Longcoat,
then the Kellytrench and the Kellymac, with the Sneppertcoat in between.
If you latch on to the Longcoat please look at April 2007, picture 7, showing a dark
blue Longcoat and a gray Kleppermantel. That picture is my favorite together with
        September 2010, picture 1.
By the way - what is it with women wearing slickers with hoods or sou'westers and being barefoot or wearing high-heeled shoes? If dressing for rain, should not the footwear be rubber boots?

Kate! You must not get carried away by Duncan and his Kelly LongCoats. Don t forget you the Honarary President of the VSAS (Viking Seventeen Admirers Society)

Kate! You must not get carried away by Duncan and his Kelly LongCoats. Don't forget you the Honarary President of the VSAS (Viking Seventeen Admirers Society) Do you not remember your inauguration ceremony and your Presidential address. There is even a photo of it in September 2010 (title the lecture).Like all graduation ceremonies, here in England anyway, you had to wear the Gown and Hood and you gave a very VSA inspiring speecg, I well remember.
I wrote in October 2010 telling how I sat at the back of the hall, having made sure tah everyone in the audience was properly dressed in Viking Seventeens regnfrakker, or something very similar.
Then, do you remember, Kate, when we had previously visited a meeting of the SnepperKlubbe at their meeting in a mountain hut, faithfully recorded by HH in a photo on December 2008, when he got us both in a photo in our VS's together with three Snepper-clad and hooded lady members? You at the top of the steps and me, double hooded for the occasion, just below you?

So, is there a society for LongCoat enthusiasts that we haven't come across?
Duncan seems to be the expert on that type of regnfrakk.
Can he tell us if there is such. Or if not, how it might be?
The fact that HH is having a break from new Photos actually provides with the opportunity to enjoy going through the old ones.
          Harald

regards societies. But if there is someone out with a burning - or raining, if you
like - wish to make a move on LongCoats, please do.
And - what's the fascination with Seventeens only? The Kellymacs are just as good,
the texture even smoother than on the Seventeens.
Kate, would you really let a man 'order' you to stay with only one type of slicker?

            kind regards,

I just got hung-up on Viking Seventeens in my youth, back in the 1960s. I never got involved in any other types, didn’t know they existed even and moved to the North of England to live and work and have been there ever since. So I missed out on the more recent regnfrakk scene. I am intrigued to see from your earlier message that KellyCoats and KellyMacks were earlier than the Viking Seventeens which I had around 1963.
The Kellymacs certainly look great from HHs album 057. The couple in the first two photos give a good idea of the material – but not good enough for me to switch from Viking Seventeens. In the KellyLongCoat Album 053, it is only the style of the mack worn by the girl in the fish market that appeals to me, again not the material.
So it is the Viking Seventeen for me still.
              Harald

Duncan and others, Firstly, no, you are correct, I would not let a man dictate my choice of rainwear, not even my Chris.
Secondly, I was completely impartial when coming to like a particular type of your Norwegian rainwear my choice of Norwegian regnfrakker. I came on the scene later in life than Harald, certainly, and perhaps you too. I liked the look of the Viking Seventeens right from the start of HHs sets of photos.
I think it is the particular blue, or brown-I gather, and the contrasting red lined hood and particularly the look of the material, backed by the descriptions from Harald and HH. I have more recently then examined the files and specific sets of photos and then gone back over recent photos in the monthly sets. Particularly, see Dec 09, no 5, the girl sitting at the mirror; Jan 2010, no. 7, the girl in the laboratory; March 10, no. 7 the girl on the beach - a specially good one from my point of view and April 2010, no 2, the girl on the street corner. Each of these confirms my own vwey subjective, I admit, liking for these Viking Seventeens.
Finally, the girl in the brown regnfrakk in that splendid picture of her and the cattle up in the mountains - can you or someone, Harald?, tell me if this is one of my favourite types, please?

Well, well, what do you know. Harald, if there is a LongCoat Society in existence
I certainly know nothing about is.
But I do listen to Kinks' 'The Village Green Preservation Society', and there is also the
'Pippa Middleton Ass Appreciation Society', and with those two I'm satisfied as
regards societies. But if there is someone out with a burning - or raining, if you
like - wish to make a move on LongCoats, please do.
And - what's the fascination with Seventeens only? The Kellymacs are just as good,
the texture even smoother than on the Seventeens.
Kate, would you really let a man 'order' you to stay with only one type of slicker?

                kind regards,
                duncan

This is what I know: Both the Seventeen and the Kellymac appeared at the same time - 1962 - and they are more or less identical. They both have the following colors -
brown, light blue, royal blue and marine blue - but only Seventeen has red and green, and only Kellymac has orange.
And the only way I can tell one from the other is that the Kellymacs have a kind of a square hood, especially when viewed from behind. The Seventeen hood is more rounded.
And the slickers with the checkered hood lining is definitely a Viking (product name of Vestlandske Gummivareprodukter) make, but I don't think it is called Seventeen.
And I wouldn't mind wearing a Seventeen - in the rain or having dinner - and my choice of color would be light blue.
