When Dakota was in Hong Kong last year filming "Push", in which she plays a young girl with special powers, Dakota was actually in a communist country, since Hong Kong has been under the control of Communist China since 1997.  Dakota and her fellow cast and crew members had to get visas to enter the country, and when she arrived at the Hong Kong airport, she was met by a throng of Chinese fans, familar with her earlier movies, so she signed many autographs before going through customs.  The guards at customs checked her passport and visa and started laughing when they read her first name, since most of them were proficient in English and new that two of the American States were named Dakota, so they assumed she came from one of those state, North or South Dakota.  Dakota told them she was from Georgia, and they laughed again, said that her name should be Georgia, as it is often the custom in certain Chinese provinces to include the name of the province when naming a new-born child.  Dakota was very gracious and didn't scorn their laughs, but joined in with them, and they let her through customs.

PS.  I finally got a nice hand made thank you note from Dakota for some birthday presents I sent her.
