Group Description

This site has been created to allow those with origins from Dabrowa or surrounding hamlets a way to discuss the areas history and family history. Da~browa Dabrowa, (D¹browa) Mazowieckie today has a population of around 450 people and is located as follows; Województwo: Mazowieckie, Powiat: Siedlecki, Gmina: Przesmyki within a valley where the creek(rzeczki) Kol~odziejki runs through. Village is just south of the Bug river roughly between the towns of Siedlce, Drohiczyn and Losice. Prior to 1935, the village's name was Duplowice. The towns name starting with "Du" meaning "Double" was due to residents identifying 2 immediate areas "low" and "large". The orginal farm bore the name "Natolin". Historical records show the spelling as Dulplewicze which dates the village back to 1570. In 1569 the region of Podlasie was tranferred from Lithuania to Polish Crown into the Polish/Lithuania Commonwealth.
Through its history the area was affected by the wars with the Tartars in the 1650's, Swedish invasion in 1655 and of course Russia, Prussia and Germany more recently. For a period during the Polish Partition, the village was connected to Austo- Hungarian empire
The townspeople worshipped at the Knychowek arouund 4km away. The original wooden church and parish was created in 1460, where it also serviced the village of Korczew. Other hamlets in the immediate area include Kamianki Czabaje, Kamianki Nicki, Kamianki Wanki, Przesmyki, Lysow, Wolka Nowa, Wolka Lysowska,Batkow Nowy, Batkow Stary.
