      Hi Bob. When you are connected to a gateway and an RF user keys up on
      a repeater module connected to the gateway, the controller sends a
      message to the gateway notifying about the keyup. Once per minute, the
      controller also sends a similar message notifying that the controller,
      signified by the "S" in the 8th character, is online.

      The "User update" messages at the bottom of DVTool show those messages.

      One intersting thing you might notice is that when an RF user does not
      have the gateway in RPT2, signified by a "G" in the 8th position, the
      controller will still send a message to the gateway when they key up.
      This is how you can tell when a local RF user is active even when you
      can't hear them. This same status message is used by DStarMonitor for
      updating dstarusers.org.
