Today, July 1, 2009, marks 35 years of service for the City of Detroit Department Of Transportation (D-DOT). As mentioned in our Anniversary Reminder email sent earlier, the former city owned transit agency, the DSR (Department of Street Railways), was reorganized on this day in 1974, forming the city's new transportation department.

In commemoration of DDOT's 35th Anniversary, the second page of the Detroit Transit History's 1970's Photo Gallery section is now available for viewing. This page focuses on the first new buses placed into service under DDOT, which includes not only the new GMC buses delivered in June of 1975 but also a fleet of 51 AM General buses delivered in late December of 1975. Within just a year-and-a-half, one hundred and ninety-nine new buses would be placed into service under DDOT.

To view this DDOT journey down memory lane, visit the following web-page:

BTW, Page 3 of the 1970's Gallery, featuring the city's first fleets of RTS coaches, should be available on the site within a few days. Stay tuned!!!
