fighting tyle of the Picts/Scots is best represented by the Wb fast
classification. Not that they were inherently better individually in
the rough but more that tactically they preferred ambushes and a
looser style of warfare, thus they move quicker, are not -2 in the
rough, but the lack of armor makes them more brittle thus -1 in
combat if their total is less than opponent.

Northumbrian's as regular Wb works well as the shieldwall tactics they
prefer gives them a slight edge vs the Wb fast in open combat while
they are at a disadvantage in the rough. The superior armor and arms
of the "Nobilty" in terms of chain, helmets and swords vs
leather and spears for the average warrior makes sense in gradng the
      Thanes as Wb superior.

On what evidentiary basis do you make these assessments? Or is it simply
akin to PB's distrust of the evidence for Pictish Crossbows? Is there any
significant evidence that the Picts operated in looser formation?
