      Hi,
The ending -ova is important due to Czech grammar rules. You probably know that nouns in Czech take different suffixes in the various cases. For instance: Clinton - with Clinton = s Clintonem, Chirac - with Chirac = s Chirakem, (Mrs.) Thatcher = Thatcherova, with Thatcher = s Thatcherovou. Female names without the ending -ova are exception, taking no such suffix: if you transpose Thatcher into Czech as "Thatcher", then with Thatcher = "s Thatcher", which is against the spirit of the language. In particular, if you write "President Havel met with Clinton, Chirac and Thatcher" as "Prezident Havel se setkal s Clintonem, Chirakem a Thatcher", this sounds terrible to a native Czech (3 names but only 2 suffixes). Actually, the only acceptable form of "Thatcher" in Czech is together with the first name, "Prezident Havel se setkal s Margaret Thatcher".
      Best regards,
      Petr Adamek
