      Hello,

      would anyone be so kind and help me with the term "depository receipt"? It has something to do with shares and shareholding, like maybe an alternative to a share as a form of investment in the company. It is a bit opaque, since I have it in an English translation from Dutch, so it may actually not be the correct term. Any suggestions are welcome.

        They're usually either "American depository receipts" (ADRs) or
        "Global depository receipts" (GDRs); the spelling "depositary" is
        also common. They're essentially proxy documents for underlying
        shares which, for one reason or another, can't be held/listed/traded
        outside their home country. In Czech I've seen "globalni depozitni
        certifikat".
