      Hi all,

Kostas - I am sure you will find plenty more translators who are not
      impressed by JTP's fees
and practices (or the quality of their publications and services) and I for
      one would be
perfectly happy if this forum served as a meeting place for people with your
      views to
      organize.

I think a forum like this will have all kinds of spin-offs, some of which
      have been hinted at in
recent messages: specialist translators' groups, work-sharing networks,
      literary translators,
translation teachers, interpreters and people who just want a chat about
      language problems.
Alastair suggests another possible spin-off (legal complications
      notwithstanding): > A
(credible) threat of widespread negative publicity/blacklisting. A lot has
      been said on that
      topic on Lantra.

Sooner or later we will also get flames from people who feel their mailbox
      is getting clogged
up with stuff that does not relate to them. To those who don't like the
      volume of traffic, I
suggest you go to your onelist page and set your account to "view only"
      mode which means
you will receive no messages but you will be able to view messages from the
      onelist site - or try
digest mode. Or note the "unsubscribe" facility at the bottom of each
      message:).

Also, a special welcome to new members recently recruited from Lantra.
      Please bear with us
for the time being. Because this is quite a new group, we are just getting
      to know one
another, which means perhaps a disproportionate amount of chat, thinking
      aloud, everybody
going off on their own tangent, pub-crawl arrangements and a general lack of
any established pattern of behaviour or netiquette. Enjoy:)
