TROWEL = ZEDNICKA LZICE, NOT HLADITKO
It seems from the pictures I have found that our "hladitko" is what you call
"hawk", just the handle has a different (as Sarka pointed out). So I
translated trowel as "zednicka lzice" a pallet as "hladitko".

I am not so sure that a hladitko/rajblik (a trowel) is the same as a hawk.
The hawk is the (square) thing that you carry the mortar on, the trowel or
hladitko is the (rectangular)thing you apply it with. Anyway it is all a bit

academic really - in a list like that as long as you come up with something
vaguely technical-sounding then no one is going to be too fussed.

Ne, tvuj názor je správný. Oficiálně se tomu rika hladítko (bez filcu),
akorát u nás to má jiné držátko. Všechny ostatni nazvy tohoto nastroje
(rajblik, fartáč) patří do zednického slangu

drevena, kovova apod. bez filcu). Takze osobne jsem dospela k nazoru, ze
hladitko je priblizne totez jako pallet/hawk. Ale pokud jsou moje myslenkove
pochody spatne, rada si rozsirim obzory.
Ovšem vyloucen není samozrejme ani preklep.

      Ahoj,

z dob rakouska-uherska a pochází z němčiny.

Sorry about the last message - clicked on the wrong button. Perhaps I am

wrong but I think that there is a good chance that the pallet in this

context refers to what is known in the building trade as a "hawk" - see

      http://www.diydata.com/tool/brickwork/bricklayers.php

      - the portable board that bricklayers and plasterers use to carry round

cement and plaster. They called it a pallet because it is used for mixing

and it is portable (as in an artist's palette). I don't think pallet (as in

the big wooden thing that you lift up with a forklift truck) would make

sense here. I asked my girlfriend's dad and he says it is called a rajblik

in Czech but he is in the pub and does not understand me anyway so perhaps

rajblik is to be treated with care - it is not the hladitko, but the square

board with a handle underneath that you use to carry the stuff around on -

i.e. a "nanaseci hladitko" or "prkynko na maltu" according to Elman and

      Michalicek.

      Zdravim,

TOOLS FOR MASONS, FOUNDRY WORKERS, CEMENT WORKERS, PLASTERERS AND PAINTERS

      (TROWELS, PALLETS, POLISHERS, SCRAPERS, ETC.)

kotevni listy), takže spis mi jde o to, jestli nekdo nemá nejakou konkretni

zkusenost, protoze slovniky casto uvadeji ledacos.

      Predem dekuji.

"My chemici" rikame mlecnan
lithny, ale doktori by asi preferovali lithium-laktat. Laktat lithny je
latinsko-ceska kombinace, te bych se vyhnul.
