Belated thanks to Jamie and Jarda for some hints on how to deal with pdfs at
the source side of a job.
I do try to impress my customers to get an editable format for translation.
On the other hand it is obvious that supplying pdfs for further document
processing has become a not so unusual phenomenon leading to different
companies trying to offer a solution to this misconception, CAT makers
included: Omnipage, MultiTrans...
I never really made it an issue with small files but the job I finished
yesterday was of a quite different quantitative nature and I spent about the
same time dealing with the formatting problems as the translation proper.
Perhaps one way of dealing with this situation is charging an appropriate
formatting rate and make the customer aware of this being a costly as well
as time demandning option and let them decide for themselves. This kind of
solution has a whole lot of other connotations though and I don't mean to
open another can of worms...
