Some of you may be interested in the following event:

Reading & Discussion with Alex Zucker
      Friday, November 9, 2012
      7:00pm until 10:00pm
Anglo-American University Library, Letenska 1, Mala Strana

      The official blurb:

AAU Library is happy to continue its ongoing Reading Series with another event.

We cordially invite you to a Reading & Discussion with Alex Zucker, who is going to read from and talk about his complete translation of Jachým Topol's "The Devil Workshop" (Chladnou Zemí) and his translation-in-progress of "Markéta Lazarová" by Vladislav Vančura.

As Zucker is going to read several versions of his translation of "Markéta Lazarová" opening pages, the reading will hopefully stir up a discussion about the craft of translation as such, with author sharing his experience and talking about the difficulties he has been facing.

Alex Zucker has translated novels by Miloslava Holubová, Jáchym Topol, Petra Hůlová, and Patrik Ouředník. His translation of Jáchym Topol's first novel, City Sister Silver, was featured in 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die. His translation of Petra Hůlová's first novel, All This Belongs to Me, won the National Translation Award from the American Literary Translators Association in 2010. His translation of The Devil's Workshop, by Jáchym Topol, will be published by Portobello Books in 2013.

Zucker lives in Brooklyn, New York.

We are looking forward to meeting you at the library on a Friday night, November 9 at 7 pm!
